End Emotions And Show Figures On Purported Rising Insecurity – Lai Mohammed To Critics

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has called on critics complaining about purported worsening security situation in the country to end the needless emotion.

He challenged them to come up with facts and figures to buttress their claims, adding that the security situation had rather improved compared to when the administration came to power in 2015.

The minister said this when he featured on “Politics Nationwide”, a Radio Nigeria programme monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mohammed said this against the backdrop of some Nigerians claiming that the newly appointed Service Chiefs were coming at a time when the security situation in the country had worsened.

According to him, I do not agree that the new service chiefs have come at a time the security in the country has worsened, people are just being emotional

“I look at what the security situation was in 2011, 2012 and 2014, in 2015 hardly did we celebrate Christmas and New Year peacefully.

“I remember Boko Haram was holding sway in many local government areas in the North East.

“The Federal Capital Territory itself was not safe, some media houses, United Nations House in Abuja and some security formation were attacked,” he said.

He added that some schools were closed down in the North East, adding, “so, when people say this, I ask for data.”

The minister, however, said that though there were some challenges, churning out lies based on emotion was unacceptable.

He commended the outgone service chiefs for their starling performances, adding that the new service chiefs had started on a good note by having an interface with the Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum.

Mohammed said that the new CDS was at a time commander of Lafiya Dole, as well as the new Chief of Army Staff, adding that their wealth of experiences would help in improving on the gains by their predecessors. (NAN)
