Registration for the TVET maximization project (Project T-MAX) kicked off in September and has successfully ended in six states. The turnout was massive, as over 400,000 Nigerians applied for the program across Lagos, Gombe, Kaduna, Ogun, Enugu & Nasarawa States.
However, there are only 15,000 slots available in the project’s pilot phase; to achieve this, a pre-selection screening has begun across the six states. Lagos & Ogun with a total number of 35,894 and 41,892 applicants respectively, will only be selecting 3,000 & 2,000 applicants through the screening exercise.
In a recent Twitter space with Mr. Fela Bank-Olemoh (Senior Special Assistant to the President on Education Interventions), hosted by Dr. Dipo Awojide (Career coach High Impact Careers & BTDT hub), Mr. Bank-Olemoh gave an overview of the TVET Maximization program and its partnership with existing private and public technical & vocational training centers to achieve this goal. He also implored selected applicants to take this seriously and use their skills to add value to their families and the economy. It was an impactful session, as he said, with this huge number of applicants wanting to equip themselves with skills, the Federal Government will look into expanding the capacity in the next phase.
The pre-selection screening, which ended on Wednesday 5th October 2022 in Lagos and Ogun State, recorded a massive number of people at the various screening centers across the states. On a visit to some of the centers in Lagos state, Mr. Bank-Olemoh and Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo (Commissioner for Education, Lagos State) advised the applicants to make good use of this golden opportunity if they are selected, as a lot of people wish to be a part of this program. Similarly, in Ogun State, Mr. Bank-Olemoh and Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele charged the applicants to be focused and committed to getting the best out of the program.

Other states; Kaduna, Nasarawa, Enugu & Gombe had 121,269, 71,914, 16,507 & 106,805 applicants respectively. The pre-selection screening in the above-stated states will kick off next week, while registration in Edo State is set to commence soon.
With the massive number of applicants recorded in this pilot phase, there is hope that the Federal Government will expand the numbers and extend the program to more states in the next phase, giving more Nigerians the opportunity to be financially independent and build a solid future for themselves.
