Director, World Trade Union Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and entertainers, Wizkid, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Davido, Burna Boy, Funke Akindele-Bello, Mr Eazi and other Nigerians have been featured on the Forbes’ 100 Innovations, Inventions & Icons From Africa list.
The Forbes list was informed by Hollywood exports, Grammy artists and award-winning ideas that could save the world, according to Punch.
It also said the list is a way of “celebrating these very ideas, inventions, and influential role models that have spelt Africa’s growth over the last decade”.
The magazine on its official Twitter account, @Forbesafrica, said, “This also includes the award-winning ideas that have defined the African continent and influential role models that have spelt Africa’s growth over the last decade.
Earlier this year, Iweala was appointed the Director-General of WTO she is the first African and first woman to hold the position since the inception of the organisation while in March, Burna Boy and Wizkid won Grammy awards in the category of Best Global Music and Best Video respectively.
Nnaji was described as a trailblazer in Nollywood and recognised for her directorial debut movie, Lionheart, which was submitted for the 2020 Oscars nomination but was disqualified due to English dialogue. Adichie’s book Half of a Yellow Sun explores, albeit fictionally, the incidents that led up to the Nigerian Civil Way of 1967. Ekeinde has appeared in over 200 movies and in 2013 she was featured on Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world alongside Beyoncé, Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama.
