Two suspected cultists have been confirmed dead in a cult war between rival cult groups in Awka, the Anambra State capital with the state police command arresting two other suspected cultists.
The suspected cultists were said to have clashed at the popular Eke Awka Market. Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident said the clashes between rival cult groups occurred in the early hours of last Sunday, along the Ifite Awka, Zik’s Avenue in Awka South Local Government Area.
He disclosed that only two persons died in the clash, adding that the names of the deceased persons would be withheld for investigative purposes, while the two unidentified dead bodies had been deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Ikenga in a statement released in Awka, said that “adequate security has been emplaced to forestall further escalation of the incidence, while full-scale investigation to determine the culpability or otherwise of the two arrested persons as well as arresting fleeing members of the cult groups has commenced. “The names of the suspects are withheld deliberately because they are helping police operatives in the area of information in other to arrest other fleeing members.”
