A Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, has sentenced two men: Hope Lazarus, 20-year-old, and Wisdom Danjuma, 18 years old, to 11 months imprisonment each. The Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, Inuwa Maiwada, sentenced the duo after they pleaded guilty to a six-count charge of joint acts, extortion, criminal force in an attempt to commit theft, voluntarily causing hurt to constrain to an illegal act, theft and belonging to a gang of thieves.
Maiwada, ruled that the convicts should also pay compensation to the complainants. Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Barr. Up Adeyanju A. A had told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 1st after a birthday party in Womzy Hotel, Karu Site Abuja. Adeyanju, said that the complainants, one Omale Gerald Benedict and Faith Godwin while taking a walk to enter a bike to their various houses were attacked by the defendants who were armed with a knife and cutlass.
Beat them up inflicting injuries on their bodies and also forcefully collected an iPhone 7 plus valued at N115,000 (One hundred and fifteen thousand naira) one bag and a power bank valued at N15,000 (Fifteen thousand naira) all belonging to one Omale Gerald Benedict and one infinix note 4 valued at N20,000 (twenty thousand naira).
He further stated that the defendants ran away but were later arrested and some of the stolen valuables were recovered during investigation except the power bank which is valued at N10,000 (ten thousand naira) Adeyanju said the offences contravened sections 79, 292, 269, 250, 287 and 306 of the penal code law.
