The Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, has said that the upper legislative chamber committee on budget defence is to correct all imbalances if any on the proposed budget, so that all parts of Nigeria would be adequately covered.
Sen. Aliero, made this known recently in Abuja, during the commencement of budget defence by ministries and agencies. In this vein, the lawmaker representing Kebbi Central Senatorial District at the senate explained that the budget defence is to assess if there are imbalances.
However, Senator Aliero, expressed satisfaction with the explanation provided by the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, saying “if they are roads that cut across states definitely such roads will serve various Senatorial Districts, For instance, if a road from Calabar-Lagos, Port-Harcourt-Maiduguri, Kano to Lagos, AbujaKano definitely these roads would have cut across all the senatorial districts in the country,” he said. Meanwhile, the Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District, Kashim Shettima, has accused the Ministry of Works for shortchanging the Northeast in its 2021 proposed budget in terms of road contracts.
In contrast, the Minister explained that all regions were adequately captured using the A1-A9 roads network which links up the entire country in the road network.
