Governor Abdulahi Ganduje could not stop the high profile defection of former Governor, senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who resigned his APC membership on Wednesday to join the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Shekarau, after several meetings with the national leader of NNPP, former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, officially announced his exit from the All Progressives Congress, (APC), bringing an end to his four-year sojourn in the party.
The former Governor has been in bitter rivalry with Governor Ganduje, over the control of the APC structure in the State, which Ganduje however won at the Supreme Court It was however gathered that senator Shekarau could no longer bear what his camp described as Ganduje’s overbearing influence after he directed about three party members to purchase the Kano central senatorial district nomination form to challenge Shekarau,
despite the resolve by the APC national leadership that all former Governors in the senate should be given automatic ticket to return Shekarau’s defection was contained in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sule Yau, on Wednesday
“Finally His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Shekarau today officially announced his exit from APC to NNPP. He was immediately registered and issued a membership card of NNPP. Shortly after, the leader of the party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso presented to him Kano Central Senatorial form,”
the statement noted Kano APC has witnessed a series of defections since the reorganization of the NNPP by former Governor Kwankwaso, who is also the party’s presidential candidate since, with most of the APC leading stakeholders,
as well as top members of Governor Ganduje’s cabinet resigning to join the NNPP Among the latest decampees are Isyaku Ali Danja Gezawa, Umar Musa Gama, Aminu Sa’adu Ungogo and Lawan Hussain Chediyar. Others are Yan Gurasa, Tukur Muhammed, Mu’azzam El-Yakub, Garba Shehu Fammer, Abubakar Uba Galadima and Mudassir Ibrahim Zawaciki.
