No less than 24 communities from Aguata and Anaocha Local Government Areas (LGAs) have benefited from the ongoing community empowerment programmes organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs in partnership with Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE).
In her remarks, the Wife of the Governor Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano Founder, CAFÉ, who received indigent women, the elderly, the youths and persons living with disabilities at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Mrs Obiano said her empowerment programme was an annual activity of bringing communities together to support them in whatever way she could as she believed in their progress.
“I am a mother, I can’t see where people are suffering and keep quiet, I must do something about it. Through CAFE, many women, widows have been liberated.
“We have built houses to over 1000 widows in various communities. We will continue this even after I leave office.
“This is the reason you should vote APGA in the forthcoming election, to continue promoting humanity” Obiano’s wife stated.
She used the opportunity to thank Ndi Anambra for their numerous support accorded the Government all through the years.
In a remark, the Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources Mr Emeka Ezenwanne, an Engineer, said that Mrs Obiano had been consistent in her community tour and empowerment of indigent people across the state, which earned her the WASH Ambassador.
The commissioner noted that through her provision of borehole water and modern toilet facilities in markets in various communities, the state had been declared an “open defecation-free’’.
He commended the government for magnificent projects executed that made Anambra, the most illuminated state in Nigeria.
In separate addresses, the Transition Committee Chairmen Chief Patrick Onyedum of Anaocha and Dr Eche Ezeibe of Aguata LGAs commended Mrs Obiano for empowering the less privileged in their areas comprising, women, children, orphaned, disabled, indigent and the destitute.
The chairmen praised her for empowering women through skills acquisition training and giving them monthly stipends.
The wife of the Governor was joined by Commissioner for Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Lady Ndidi Mezue, House member representing Aguata II constituency in Anambra State house of assembly, Dr Okechukwu Okoye, Wife of Anaocha TC Chairman Mrs Rita Onyedum, Wife of APGA flag-bearer for the Nov. 6 election, Mrs. Nonye Soludo and some government functionaries.
