No fewer than five persons were on Thursday, December 3, 2020, feared dead, and several others have suffered different degrees of injuries after violence broke out between two cult groups in Lagos.
The incident which sent residents of Governor’s Road in the Ikotun area of the state into panic started in the early hours of the day.
While reasons for the clash was yet-to-be-made public, it was gathered that a member of one of the cult groups was dragged down from a motorcycle, and shot dead at close range.
“They were about eight men on Lasisi Ige Street about 10 am when the biker drove past. They identified him as a rival cult member, dragged him down, and shot him. They used a stone to smash his head.
“The deceased’s mother is a prophetess in a white garment church. We heard he was told to isolate himself and pray but he did not listen,” a resident who doesn’t want to be mentioned stated.
Following the incident, the residents who had earlier took to their heels when the clash started, were said to later return to evacuate the body of the slain cult member to the mortuary.
Confirming the incident, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu said three persons have been arrested for their suspected involvement in the clash.
“The DPO and his men have been on the ground. It was a cult clash, and the situation has been brought under control. We have been arresting suspects,” Odumosu said.
