The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Comr. Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider releasing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in order to end insecurity and also social vices in the south east.
In an open letter he wrote to President Tinubu, in celebration of Kanu’s birthday on September 25, a copy which was obtained by our reporter on Monday, Chukwu, who is also the Spokesman of National Youth Leaders Forum of Political Parties in Nigeria (NYLFPPN), said that the insecurity in the South East is assuming a dangerous proportion like the North East, hence the need to nip it in the bud.
Comrade Chukwu lamented that politicians are hiding under the agitation by IPOB to assassinate their opponents, apart from youths being recruited to carry out kidnapping, assassinations, drug peddling and other dangerous trends in the South East.
He said: “The ugly incidents ongoing in the South East is said by their perpetrators to be as a result of the continuous incarceration of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This invariably means that the freedom of their leader will be the end of their heinous acts in the land. In this case, it will take who started it to stop it.
“The activities of IPOB have also been hijacked by deviants. Killers, kidnappers, assassins and their likes have leveraged on the agitation for the release of Nnamdi Kanu to cause chaos for their personal gains in the South-East. Some politicians have also hidden under the agitation to assassinate their opponents. The once peaceful South-eastern states now compete with the troubled North East in insecurity.
“The youth are the most affected. They’re the most recruited. They have taken to drugs to function and have been badly engaged in evil perpetration. The economy of this region has also been dangerously damaged. Social life is near dead, drug abuse and peddling has become a norm among the youth. The youth are at the receiving end of both the acts and their effects. This is why I am here to beg for your attention as the father of the nation including the youths.
“To this end, let me use this year’s birthday of the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to borrow a leaf from my National Chairman, Barr Ezeokenwa Sly Jr, the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA to appeal to His Excellency the President of Nigeria, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to use his good office and effect the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. If not for any other reason, for the sake of the people of South Eastern Nigeria.
“For the sake of the innocent security personnel being killed unabated. For the peace and security of the people in the South Eastern part of your own country Nigeria. Through the appointments you made so far, especially the ministers, and the position allotted to Ndigbo in the likes of the Works Minister, Science and Technology, etc, it’s obvious that you want to carry Ndigbo along in your government and it will further enhance that belief if you consider the release of Nnamdi Kanu.”
