Following his outstanding performance at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, former Nigerian international Peter Rufai expressed his delight that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali had resolved the nation’s goalkeeping dilemma.
Remember that Nwabali’s outstanding performances were crucial to Nigeria’s run to the tournament final? Rufai, the former goalie for the Super Eagles, praised the Chippa United striker for his achievements.
The 1994 AFCON champion said he was satisfied by Nwabali’s overall control of his 18-yard area after evaluating him in the opening match against Equatorial Guinea in an interview with TVC News Nigeria.
“That was my first encounter with Stanley Nwabali during the opening AFCON game versus Equatorial Guinea.
“As soon as I evaluated his performance, his movement, his communication, and his poise, I knew that Nigeria had found a solution to the issue of wanting a better goalkeeper for the Super Eagles.
“I was happy with what I saw in that first match [against Equatorial Guinea], and Nigerians were happy with what they saw as well, but it didn’t just end there,” he said of Nwabali.
