Yakubu Gowon, a former head of state, has advised against hastily evaluating President Bola Tinubu’s performance.
Gowon made this statement to reporters from the State House yesterday following his meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
According to the former head of state, he told Tinubu not to be concerned about the criticism that his administration is now receiving.
The esteemed statesman declared that it is premature to render a definitive judgment on Tinubu’s administration.
He replied, “Well, I was telling him that no leader from Nigeria will be able to travel there and will not be aware of everything that has been reported about him.”
“But without a doubt, based on what I’ve heard and seen in the media, among other sources, I believe the administration is doing all within its power to address the numerous issues facing the nation, but what about Nigerians?
“Don’t worry, you will face criticism, but those who go there have more knowledge than you have. All that is possible, in my opinion, is for Nigerians to understand that the president needs time to do his tasks. Furthermore, it is too soon to declare that the ideal outcome will be attained right away.
That’s what I think. I am aware of this, and if my memory serves me well, I was informed throughout the battle that I was moving too slowly, that Nigeria most likely would not be able to win, and that we should immediately seek a conversation. “Well, did we do it or not? We are presumably there because they are unaware of the subterranean problem.
As one of the founding fathers of the regional group, Gowon emphasized the necessity for a settlement during their discussion of the continuing ECOWAS conflict.
Gowon denied being present at a recent ECOWAS summit, despite reports to the contrary, which he wrote off as misunderstandings.
During their discussions today, Gowon claimed that he and Tinubu were able to clarify intentions about ECOWAS.
“I went there to wish Mr. President well and success at his inauguration, but this is my first visit to him since then. I couldn’t see him because of how busy he was with visitors, government officials, and other celebrities after that. He was able to get in touch with me on my birthday following my forced trip overseas, and following the intriguing social media rumor that I had passed away. However, I made several attempts to see him when I returned, and I believe that his busy schedule prevented me from doing so.
Fortunately, he was able to offer me the chance to visit him this time and talk about various topics, including the current state of the ECOWAS issue, which I believe has to be rectified.
And as the ECOWAS’s surviving founding father, I believe we had to talk about some of his intentions to figure out how to resolve the situation.
“Well, that brought me here, and our meeting was really interesting. I’m sure some of you have read reports about my refusal to go to the ECOWAS conference, isn’t that right?”Did you write the report? Who carried that out? attempting to convey the idea that I was attempting to undermine ECOWAS in some way, you know. That is not the case, at all. I believe there was a misunderstanding, but it allowed Mr. President to give me a call to talk about my next steps.
We discussed the ECOWAS meeting as part of our conversation today. That has been resolved, so hopefully we can finish that message later today at ECOWAS headquarters by 5 p.m. They will notify you of the outcome, he said.
“All of these funds were deposited into the banks and issued with fast receipts. The audit also makes apparent how the funds raised during the off-season elections were handled.
“It was a complete fabrication that she claimed the National Chairman prevented her from carrying out her responsibilities. She has always been the official who has helped us with our financial transactions with the national headquarters.
“Almost all of the checks were signed by her and the National Chairman, according to the documents. She could have been coerced into telling a falsehood about the National Chairman.
You might be asking yourself why Peter Obi, our National Leader and Presidential Candidate in the most recent general election, seems to be saying nothing about this.
In actuality, our leader has discreetly handled this issue and is aware that Barrister Abure is the target of politically driven and sponsored assaults.
“Once more, our leader is aware of the significant sacrifices made by the party’s leadership for the project to succeed. He also understands the role the National Chairman performed before, throughout, and even after he joined the party.
“He also knows that all of the accusations are baseless and fabricated. He knows the truth, which is why he decided to say nothing.
Additionally, he is aware of the national chairman’s integrity, devotion, and enthusiasm for the party’s advancement.
“We applaud his decision to enlist the help of an independent auditor, and we think the results will clear Julius Abure’s name and expose the lies the suspended Treasurer has been spreading.”
It is very evident that our political rivals, who are concerned about the party’s future, are the ones behind the staged crisis.
“They are most likely feeding their worries and are watching for any chance to sabotage the celebration and make sure it can’t achieve its objectives. The Labour Party is a ticking time bomb, and our opponents’ fear of us is the source of their ignorance.
“We also want to use this opportunity to refute the claim that Peter Obi, the National Leader of the Labour Party, is about to be suspended.
As we have stated, our party is experiencing the greatest siege in its history, which includes the release of aggressive propaganda against it. Our leader has never been considered for suspension by the party.
He is still in charge of the party and will stay so in our declared mission to free this country from the shackles imposed by the current administration.
We also know that certain individuals are worried about the party’s performance in the Edo State gubernatorial election. They are still offended by our actions in Edo State, which is often known as the OBIDIENT Movement’s headquarters in Nigeria, and they are even fanning the flames of internal strife inside the party. We want to reassure them that the party will persevere towards a decisive victory and that their schemes will fail.
In another development, the party has made public a list of the nine (9) successful candidates who have been vetted to take part in the Edo State gubernatorial primary through Umar Farouk Ibrahim, national secretary.
Among them are Mr. Abegbe Ernest Osabhuohien, Prince Tom Iseghohi, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon, and Dr. Angela Enimien Aburime Asom.
The others are Hon. Sergius Ogun; Barrister Olumide Anthony Akpata; Prof. Eboh Sunday Eromosele; Dr. Blessing Akele; and Dr. Mrs. Loretta Oduware Ogboroko.
