A magistrate court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) has granted bail to the human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore 20 million bail with 2 sureties one of which must be a Federal Civil servant not below grade 12.
The surety must reside in Abuja metropolis with landed properties.
Also, the 2nd to 5th defendants were admitted bail in the sum of N1million and one surety in like sum. This is coming after 12 days in detention.
Sowore is also expected to physically report to the court Registrar every Monday and Friday pending the determination of the case against him. He is not expected to travel outside Abuja and the country.
The Chief Magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello adjourned the matter to February 5th 2021 for trial.
Sowore and the four others are being tried on three counts of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and inciting public disturbance but they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Sowore, Peter Williams, Sanyaolu Juwon, Emmanuel Bulus and Damilare Adenola were arrested on New Year’s eve during a procession organised and led by Sowore against bad governance.
