In an effort to combat hunger throughout the nation, the Nigeria Customs Service, or NCS, has started selling food products that have been seized to disadvantaged Nigerians, according to Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi.
During the sectoral discussion series on Tuesday on the House of Representatives floor, Adeniyi made this statement in the presence of Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.
He said that in an effort to lessen the issue of hunger in the nation, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that food items manufactured in Nigeria and confiscated at the country’s land borders be sold directly to disadvantaged Nigerians.
“Mr. President has ordered us to sell food goods made locally but seized straight to Nigerians in need. This is one strategy to combat the current state of hunger and food scarcity. This is where we started in Lagos.
“Moreover, the President has issued an order directing the return of imported food items confiscated by the Nigeria Customs Service to local markets for the purpose of reselling them to Nigerians,” the statement read.
