Egypt, Nigeria Are Still Struggling for Top Position

Egypt, who began the 2024 All African Games in Accra, Ghana, in the first week of March, is clearly the team to beat in the overall standings, with the Nigerian squad currently ranked second.

The athletes from the North African nation had won an astounding 53 gold, 21 silver, and 20 bronze medals as of the time this story was written.

Given that Egypt is still heavily active in a number of events at the African Games, which come to a finish on March 23, 2024, it is anticipated that these medals will rise.

However, Team Nigeria, who placed second overall in Morocco four years ago, is still comfortably leading this current edition of the African Games.

At the sports festival, Nigerian athletes have won 22 gold, 10 silver, and 16 bronze medals thus far. In other words, before Team Nigeria can catch up to Egypt in terms of the total number of gold medals won at the competition, they need to win at least 32 more gold medals.

Algeria, South Africa, and Tunisia are the other nations who presently rank among the top five in the African Games medal standings.
