A group, Road Accident Prevention Network Center (RAPNEC NG) has called on the Department of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), otherwise known as Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIOs), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other relevant authorities to take swift action to address the high rate of deaths and injuries among logistics motorcycle riders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
President/founder of RAPNEC NG, Prince Ogu, who made the call in Abuja at the weekend, said the high rate of deaths and injuries among logistics motorcycle riders is unacceptable, and needs immediate attention from regulatory bodies.
Ogu explained that the group has observed, through monitoring and evaluation of logistics accidents in the FCT, and noted that there has been an increase in accidents involving logistics motorcycle riders.
He called for the establishment of a clear regulatory framework that addresses the specific needs and challenges of logistics motorcycle riders, as well as the implementation of measures to increase the visibility of logistics motorcycle riders, such as reflective gear and improved lighting.
The group demands for provision of regular safety training and education for logistics motorcycle riders, and an enforcement of traffic laws and regulations to protect logistics motorcycle riders from reckless driving.
The president/founder of REPNAC NG also called for an improved road infrastructure to reduce hazards and risks faced by logistics motorcycle riders in the nation’s capital.
He continued, “The safety of logistics motorcycle riders is a matter of utmost importance. We cannot afford to lose more lives and livelihoods due to preventable accidents.
We urge the Department of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other relevant authorities to take swift action to address this critical issue.
A comprehensive regulatory framework is needed to ensure the safety of logistics motorcycle riders, making them more visible and less vulnerable to other vehicles on the road.”
