Hon. Oludare Kadiri has gone to court to challenge his removal as the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, just two weeks after being impeached.
The lawmaker, who has since been replaced by Hon. Akeem Balogun, refuted the allegations, claiming that his removal did not take place in accordance with the law.
In a suit dated March 10 and labelled FHC/ AB/ FHR/ 35/, Kadiri sued the Assembly in the Federal High Court in Abeokuta, requesting that the court quash his expulsion. In addition, the embattled lawmaker demanded N1.5 billion in damages.
The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, was named as the first respondent in the suit, while the House of Assembly was named as the second respondent.
Kadiri is seeking a declaration that the respondents violated his right to a fair hearing under section 36(1) of the Nigerian constitution during his removal from office, according to a court document signed by his lawyer, Idowu Adepeju. He’s even asking for an order declaring his impeachment and the process to be null and void.
Kadiri is seeking a permanent injunction barring the respondents and their representatives from taking any further action or denying him his right to serve as Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
