The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has called on the state government to take immediate action on security concerns raised during plenary, even as he appealed for the strict enforcement of existing laws and the implementation of earlier resolutions passed by the Assembly to safeguard residents and citizens of the state.
He further urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently implement the security recommendations reached at the South-West Governors’ Meeting in Ibadan, alongside those agreed at the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting held in Iperu on November 26.
The call followed concerns raised during plenary on Thursday by a member representing Yewa.
Adeyanju stressed the need for a proactive response to emerging security threats occasioned by the influx of foreign herders into border communities within the senatorial district.
The Speaker also directed the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Damilola Kayode Soneye, to convene a meeting with the Surveyor-General and other relevant stakeholders to address allegations of land takeover by military personnel in Ijebu North-East, as reported by a member representing the constituency, Oluseun Adesanya.
Adesanya had earlier raised concerns over rising tension in Itele, reportedly caused by the Nigerian Army, which was said to have fenced off between 20 and 25 villages.
He warned that the development had triggered fears of displacement, widespread apprehension and the potential for conflict among residents.
