The Lawmaker representing Gitata/Karu Constituency in Nasarawa State House of Assembly, David Maiyaki, on Monday defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Speaker of the Assembly, Ibrahim Balarebe Abdullahi, made this known while reading out a notification letter from the member to his colleagues, during an emergency seating in Lafia, the State Capital.
In the Letter, the Lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Survey, said he took the decision to defect to the ruling Party after due consultation with his constituents.
Maiyaki who thanked his former Party (PDP) for giving him the platform through which he was elected to serve his people, said his action is in the best interest of the people he represents.
Reacting to the development, the Speaker who expressed gratitude over the defection of the Member, said he was happy because all the Legislators from Nasarawa West Constituency in the Assembly are now members of the ruling party.
He assured that the decampee will be given the needed support by the APC family in the course of representing his People.
When contacted on the phone, the State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Francis Orogu, who disclosed that he was not surprised by the defection of the Member, said the movement and actions of the Legislator has since indicated that he was nursing such step.
