IPAN condemns murder of Chike Akunyili, husband to late Dora Akunyili

The Igbos For A Progressive Nigeria (IPAN) has strongly condemned in its entirety the gruesome murder of Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of late Prof Dora Akunyili, by yet to be identified gunmen.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday in Awka, IPAN’s national president, Comrade Lawrence Onuzulike, described the act ungodly, calling on the state government to urgently fish out those culprits.

“Unfortunately, miscreants have been allowed to cause mayhem and untold hardship to the people, especially in the Southeastern states of Nigeria, while the government of the states stand hands-on akimbo and watch.

“IPAN wonders why the Government of Anambra State is not doing anything tangible to protect the lives of the people they govern. Has Chief Willie Obiano lost interest in protecting the state?

“ IPAN also wishes to remind the Federal Government of Nigeria that the people being slaughtered routinely in the South East are law-abiding citizens of Nigeria, therefore immediate action needs to be taken to put an end to the carnage and barbarism taking place in the region.”

On his part, Comrade Oliver Okeke, IPAN’s Head of Media and South East Zone Coordinator, says:

“Proactive actions need to be undertaken by the various tiers of governments to reduce the heightened tension in Anambra State.

“And to Akunyili’s family, IPAN regrets the untimely death of your brother, husband, son, Dr. Chike Akunyili. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant those he left behind the fortitude to bear this irrepressible loss.”
