Nasarawa Assembly lifts suspension on Member

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday, lifted the suspension order placed on one of its members, Luka Iliya Zhekaba, (PDP Obi II) Constituency.

The Member was suspended last September by his Colleagues following his alleged involvement in the recruitment of 366 teachers and inclusion of names of 38 fake teachers in the payroll of the State Civil Service.

Speaker of the Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe- Abdullahi, announced the lift in suspension after the members deliberated on the report earlier submitted by the House Committee on Education.

The Speaker directed the suspended member to resume work immediately.

The Committee in its report had recommended that, in order to protect the integrity and uphold the sanctity of the Assembly, membership of Luka Iliya Zhekaba be withdrawn from the House Committee on Education.

He should be strongly warned not to compromise with an undue process in future engagements as well as be cautioned not to indulge in any illegality that may dent the good image of the Assembly.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Tanko Tunga, moved a motion for the adoption of the report and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Abel Bala.

It would be recalled that on September 13, 2021, the Lawmakers suspended its former Deputy Minority Leader, Luka Iliya Zhekaba ( PDP- Obi II) for his alleged roles in the inclusion of 38 fake teachers into the payroll of the State Civil Service.

Following the discovery, Speaker of the Assembly Ibrahim Balarabe constituted a three-man Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the Matter and the Committee did not find the Member wanting at the end of its finding.
