The need to fixed some roads at Mararaba Gurku, Kabusu, Chakuwa, Zhayi, Kapa, Kugbaru, Katanyi, Koso, Kare, Kondoro, Anguwan Jaba, Panda, and Gitata communities in Karu local government Area of Nasarawa State has been stressed.

Residents of the above communities have appealed to the governor of Nasarawa state, Engr Abdullahi Sule, to consider the plight of the people and fix the bad nature of the road.

The appeal to the governor hinges on the difficulty members of the communities have to go through before transporting their farm produce and other essential services with the rainy season at its peak.

The abandoned bridge

Speaking with New National Star on Tuesday, the communities appealed to the governor for intervention, revealing the colossal damages of the roads leading to their various communities.

Our correspondent, who visited the area, confirmed that the bridge, which was started by previous administration in the state over 10 years ago, had not been completed, but would have connected Mararaba and Panda from the time the road was contracted for construction.

It would be recalled that the immediate past governor, now Senator representing Nasarawa South at the National Assembly, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, attempted to complete the bridge in order to create easy access to both motorists and the rural dwellers, but couldn’t.

Apart from the Mararaba/ Panda road, there are quite a number of roads in Karu local government area that are linking some villages that are going through worse situation.

Speaking with our reporter, a resident of the community, Umar Tanko, appealed to the governor to intervene and fix the road so that it will help communities to transport their farm produce and other valuable materials easily.

He said: “The roads are not motorable anymore because the three bridges have been cut off and farmers are spending a lot of money in the road before their farm produce can reach their homes. Your Excellency may wish to know that the Maraba – Gurku – Kugwaru – Panda – Gitata road has bridges that are yet to be fixed and needs to be fixed as a matter of urgency as it will add value to the government and our party in the eyes of the affected people and communities.

“These bridges are: Ado river bridge in Gurku, Kugwaru River and Uvy river in Koso, a boarder community to Panda Development Area.”

He applauded the said takeover of the road by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, saying it is a good development. However, he appealed to the Nasarawa State government to expedite action to ensure that the road and the bridges are given prompt attentions.
