A constitutional lawyer and the principal partner of Friends Chambers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Prince Orji Nwafor – Orizu has advised President Muhammad Buhari to call the Department of State Services (DSS) officers to stop harassing the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele.
It has been in the news for some time that the DSS has over the time been trying to areest and drag Emefiele to ciurt to charge him for sponsoring terrorism, among others. And some Senior Advicstes of Nigeria (SANs) and others had asked the DSSS to stay clear of the governor of the apex bank
This legal icon spoke to selected journalists recently in his chamber in the FCT.
Baring his mind on the DSS and Emefiele saga, Nwafor – Orizu had this to say: “All I have to say is that everything about it, as far as I am concerned is anarchy, because they have tried court action and they didn’t go through. I have read where some SANs and other Nigerians calling and appealing to the Attorney General of Nigria (AGF) to obey court order which is in order.
“What the SANs and others are saying in the write up is that the issue be redirected to Mr President. The DSS officers are employees of Mr President. In fact, the DSS is called the State House Annex and that is to say, it is a part of the office of the president. And the DSS can’t have a parrelel agenda on an issue. It isn’t a question of Mr President providing a security for Emefiele, but a question of him making a categorical and official statement, stopping the DSS from harassing Emefiele in the national interest.
Still beckoning Mr President to come up with an officail statement on the whole issues, this Nnewi in Anambra – born prince however insisted that he hasn’t seen a an ofdence in the restructuring of the CBN ordered by President, which the DSS has turned into sponsoring of terrorism which the DSS has been attempting to arrest and charge the CBN governor for. Defending that Emefiele was ordered by his boss, Mr President to effect changes in the country’s currency, he alleged that the fact that it didn’t favour the APC pretsidential candidte, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, they had to frame up the issue of financing terrorism. “For the fact thst it didn’t favour Tinubu, because time is against them, then it becomes terrorism, he said.
Accusing the APC of using all means to truncate the up coming election, Orji Nwafor – Orizu said Mr President, being a resolute man had refused to yield to their plans.
“Because the change effected in the money doesn’t favour Tinubu, it becomes terrorism. There is no way the APC hasn’t tried to truncate the up coming elections, but Mr President, a reaolute man is stronger than they. Somebody asked for the murder of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and that of Emefiele, because of the changes effected in the money and the process of the election respectively and the president said no,” he stated.
When asked, he said he didn’t know who has been sponsoring all the evil intensions, but was quick to say that whoever that has been sponsoring it may not be fsr from Tinubu or the APC.
Noting that there are many Nigerians with billions of Naira they don’t know how to go anout, due to the changes effected in the currentcy by the order of the president to the CBN, the constitutional lawyer however advised the DSS and Emefiele to continue to obey Mr President, adding any of them who couldn’t, should just resign.
