Okowa: People wanted Obi for change, but INEC failed to follow Electoral Act

The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, has given reasons why the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter won overwhelmingly in South east and South during the February 25 presidential election

The Delta State Governor regretted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to follow the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act as amended in declaring the results of the election, stressing that people exercised their right to chose their leader but the umpire, INEC failed to do the right thing

Governor Okowa, who spoke at Asaba on Monday, said Obi, leveraged on a lot of factors to record sweeping victory in the South-South and South-East geopolitical and other zones in the February 25 presidential election.

He said, “A lot of factors contributed to the sweeping victory of Obi in South-South and South-East.

“The agitation that the presidency should come to the southern part of the country, religion and Igbo presidency were key factors.

“Obidient movement is a movement that swept across the South-South and South-East. The people wanted Obi as a change. They believed it is turn of South-East.

“I believe that people have exercised their rights in a democratic process but INEC did not follow Electoral Act.”
