Ugochinyere, Anyawu Meet On Security Ahead of Imo Guber Election

By Sunday Ayami, Abuja

The forthcoming coming governorship election in Imo State is gaining momentum as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyawu and his deputy, Jones Onyerri meet with House of Representatives member, Ikenga Ugochinyere to discuss security situation of the state ahead of upcoming off-season elections.

A statement by the lawmaker disclosed that the meeting has sent shivers in the camp of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Ugochinyere described the meeting as a watershed moment for the 2023 Imo governorship race, and as a key player in the political landscape of the state.

He said the meeting centred on how to recover Imo State from the grip of ruling APC when they visited him in his office at the National Assembly.

This meeting, he noted signifies a significant stride towards unity, reconciliation, and the overarching interests of the state as it also signalled an air of agreement to forge a common ground despite past differences.

The chairman of the House of Representatives committee on Petroleum Resources (downstream) also disclosed that the meeting which lasted over two hours similarly delved into critical issues currently facing the state as they also explore potential avenues for collective action.

He further added that central to the discussion were the terms of reconciliation, forgiveness, unity, and the pressing need to address the challenges of violence, security breaches, and social unrest that have marred the state’s progress.

“The prevailing sentiment was that the time had come for Imo State’s leaders to set aside personal and political differences and prioritize well-being of the populace,” the lawmaker said.

Ugochinyere pledged to engage in extensive consultations with various leaders across the state, indicating that he would make an announcement regarding his choice of candidate.
