The Federal Government has disbursed N135,479,884,677.02 to the States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as reimbursement following the Second Independent Assessment of Results attained under the World Bank-assisted Performance for Results Program, Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG CARES).
The money was distributed based on the results attained by the States and Federal Capital Territory in their endeavors to assist impoverished and vulnerable Nigerians under the auspices of the NG-CARES Program, according to Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, the program’s national coordinator, who made the announcement in Abuja on Friday.
“In this Second Round of Assessment, Nasarawa earned N13,697,828,496.96, Cross River earned N10,944,747,818.84, and Zamfara earned N10,231,055,267.82. These are the top three performing States.”
According to him, this is a significant accomplishment for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in terms of allocating monies to combat the nation’s multifaceted poverty.
The National Coordinator praised Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, for providing the necessary leadership at the federal level to coordinate the implementation of the NG-CARES Program at the States and Federal Capital Territory, according to a statement made by the program’s information and communication officer, Suleiman Odapu. He also expressed gratitude to the World Bank, the FCT Minister, and state governors for their assistance.
The Federal Government’s NG-CARES Program is an effort that is purposefully created to function as a shock response mechanism and distribution route for the nation’s impoverished and vulnerable.
It is carried out by 158 integrated Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the 36 State Governments, as well as the FCT Administration, all of which have a strong performance history from prior donor-funded assistance.
“To expand access to food security and livelihood support services and grants for poor and vulnerable households and firms” is the program’s stated goal.
