The assassinations of defenseless civilians in the North must stop, according to the Arewa Youth Consultative Council.
The Maulud celebrations in the Tudun Biri district of Kaduna State were killed by an airstrike on Sunday, and the council declared it to be an unforgivable crime against humanity.
The statement was made by Council President Zaid Ayuba Alhaji in an open letter to Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Bola Tinubu.
Ayuba demanded that individuals responsible for the “mistake” that resulted in the airstrike face urgent investigation and disciplinary action.
In addition, he demanded payment to the incident’s victims and issued a formal apology.
The letter, entitled “Enough of the repeated and reckless killings of innocent civilians in Northern Nigeria,” says, in part, that hundreds of worshippers were killed in Tudun Biri, Igabi LGA of Kaduna State while celebrating the Maulud of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.). The entire North is in deep shock over this incident.
“The alleged Ariel bombardment carried out by the Nigerian Air Force is an inexcusable act of aggression against humankind.” Although there have been previous civilian deaths from aerial bombing, everything was covered up because the deaths occurring in the North.
As you may remember, a bomb dropped by a military jet in 2020 killed multiple civilians when it fell into a compound. Furthermore, a fighter plane claimed to have “mistakenly” bombed Nigerian Army soldiers in April 2021, killing around 20 commanders.
A similar bombing took place in Katsina State’s Safana Local Government Area in July 2022, etc.
“What type of aircraft bombardment takes place in the absence of accurate intelligence data and effective strategic planning? Who makes the decisions and who is currently in charge of such heinous recklessness? How can we let these tragedies occur as a result of the alleged “mistakes” of those tasked with keeping us safe?
“Your Excellency, sir, we are informing you of this because, bitter events such as these are abhorrent, even if we are sure that millions of Northerners will not care about your appointments, policies, or style of government, regardless of how favorable or unfavorable they may be. We request an expedient inquiry, disciplinary action, restitution, and a formal apology.
“Even while we are eager to hear from the Vice President, National Security Advisor, Interior Minister, Defense Minister, or any of the service leaders, we can’t help but question their qualifications to hold any of their positions.
“Your Excellency, in the hopes that you will comprehend the raging public anger, frustration, and mass outrage, this letter should convey to you the grieving messages of the Northern people.”
