If I had known that Ruben Abati majored in Theatre Arts at the University of Calabar, I wouldn’t have bothered to worry about his jesterring on the Igbos.
The media, both social and conventional was awash with the derogatory comments credited to the Arise Television Anchor man that Igbos don’t sell lands to non Igbos in the South East.
Equally, many foolproof revelations that non Igbos are landlords and business owners in the South East have exposed the poor vision of Abati in strategic communication.
Strategic communication entails the wisdom of having a clear understanding of what you intend to achieve with your information, whether it is creating awareness about a particular topic or achieving a specific goal.
Understanding the demographics, behaviours and sensitivities of your target is very essential for an impartial assessment of an issue.
One unapologetically wonders who Abati wants to impress in his false story angle on a subject he knows nothing about, just to discredit a section of the country and attract hatred to them.
Abati comes across as a timid slave driver in the cruel manner he chastised lady Ope of Arise Television who respectfully tried to call him to order, leaving viewers baffled at his uncouth attitude and pettiness lifestyle.
