The Methodist Arch-Bishop of Umuahia, His lordship, Ralphel Opoko on Tuesday inaugurated the Abia state Labour Party Governorship Campaign council committee at Dr. Alex Otti campaign office in Umuahia.
Inaugurating the state campaign council committee chaired by Honourable Nnanna Ngwu, Arch-Bishop Opoko said that he is not a party man, but the father of all parties in Nigeria.
“I am happy to be called upon to inaugurate the state Labour campaign council. As a Nigerian, what happens in Nigeria affects me as it effects others. Poverty has no religion or tribe. Every body should put their heads together and push poverty away from Nigeria,” he said
He charged the campaign council to work with the fear of God, and warned them not to promise people what they will not do if they find themselves in government in 2023, adding that they will be held accountable by what they promise the people during the campaign period.
He said that the youths have taken a decision to take back the country from the hands of their political oppressors and anybody who will stand on their way will be committed to the dustbin of history.
Arch-Bishop charged those appointed into the campaign council to do what is right as history will hold them accountable.
“The campaign council should leave above board, fear God in what you do and God will honour all your efforts,” he said.
Earlier in his address, Dr Alex Otti said that every member of the Labour Party in Abia state is a member of the campaign council, but those appointed and inaugurated today are to play the role of coordinating the campaign in the state and urged them to carry everybody along.
In his response the chairman of state campaign council, Honourable Nnanna Ngwu, said that him and his team are privileged to be appointed to the council and promised not to disappoint Labour Party in the state.
The highlights of the inaugurated council was the harmonization of Abia Labour structure in the state and the official unveiling of Labour Party Abia state Deputy Governorship candidate Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu to the public.
