Amid the clamour for the disbandment of Ebubeagu security outfit in the South East, the Abia state commissioner for Home Land security, Honourable Sopuruchi Bekee, has said that the state has no reason to disband the security outfit in the state.
He made this known on Wednesday while reacting to the demonstration in Aba by the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), calling for the disbandment of Ebubeagu in the South East.
He said that Abia state Ebubeagu security outfit is more of intelligence gathering and not that of carrying arms going about intimidating law abiding citizens of the state.
“Governor Ikpeazu will be the last person to tolerate any security outfit in Abia state to molest law abiding citizens in the state,” Bekee stated.
He said that Abia state remains the most peaceful state in South East.
It will be recalled that on Tuesday, COSEYL demonstrated in Aba, saying that Ebubeagu is now used by some South East Governors to kill youths in their prime, “while leaving the real Fulani terrorists and Jihadists to be moving freely in forests and bushes kidnapping our people, raping our women and killing our people at will”.
Goodluck Ibem, the president general of COSEYL said that the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway, mainly the boundary between Abia state and Imo state, has been taken over by kidnappers and Fulani terrorists, “kidnapping our people on daily basis and nothing serious has been done to arrest these criminals committing such atrocities in Igbo land.”
” It is now a crime to be a youth in lmo state as our youths are now killed at random,” he said.
The group alleged that over 25,000 innocent youths have been secretly killed by Ebubeagu and other security operatives under the watch of Governor Hope Uzodinma, adding that the demonstration will from Aba, Abia state, move to Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi states, respectively.
“We will not stop our protest until our demands are met,” the group concluded.
