Abuja-based business man sues FCT director for libel

An Abuja-based business man, Dr Donald Amangbo, has dragged the director, Department of
Advertisement and Signage (DOAS), in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dr. Baba Gana Adam, to court for libel.

Amangbo also slammed a libelous allegation against an Abuja-based newspaper, The Authority, for maliciously disparaging him.

In a suit filed at the FCT High court, marked FCT/HC/CV/6082/2023, which was sighted by our reporter, the plaintiff is asking the court to award him damages to the tune of N500 million against the two defendants for the libelous publication.

In a statement of claim filed at the court, Amangbo stated that on the 29th of March, 2023, Dr Baba Gana Adam, in a press statement published in the Authority newspaper, described him as a ‘Fake Revenue Kingpin’ in the FCT, who should not be associated with by prospective revenue payers.

The case, which was listed for hearing on 14th December, 2023 was, however, adjourned to 26th of March, next year for hearing.

Speaking to newsmen after the proceeding, counsels to the plaintiff, Mr. Solomon Tunyan and A.J Adagami of Karina Tunyan SAN & Co, stated that they are ready to open their case and prove the libelous publication against all the defendants at the next adjourned date.
