Tension has enveloped the Nkpologwu community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State following the abduction of three individuals, including a lawyer, by gunmen in the early hours of Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Eyewitnesses and a viral video circulating on social media report that the assailants carried out the kidnapping between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. The video shows a vehicle overturned along the Nkpologwu-Akpo Road, believed to belong to one of the abducted victims.
Professor Ferdinand Ezeiruaku, the President General of the Nkpologwu Community, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview. He explained that the three individuals were kidnapped from different locations within the community by heavily armed men.
Two of the victims, including the lawyer, are residents of Abuja, while the third victim is based in Port Harcourt. All three had returned to Nkpologwu to attend an event organized by the local women’s group during their August meeting.
Expressing deep concern for the victims’ safety, Ezeiruaku called on the public to pray for their safe release.
Attempts to reach the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
