Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, has asked Nigerians to keep the togetherness and camaraderie that the team displayed during the just ended 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire off the football field and to bring the nation together.
Musa stated that Nigeria’s solidarity on the football pitch transcended religion and ethnic background as he was thinking back on the tournament’s conclusion after witnessing his team lose 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire in the final on Sunday.
Thinking back on our experience in the AFCON competition, I am incredibly proud of the Nigerian Super Eagles. Even though we might not have won the tournament, our on-field cooperation disregarded our differences in religion and tribe and served as a reminder of the ability of football to unite people. Our squad persevered through the game’s turns and turns, showing tenacity and resolve that inspired supporters all throughout the country.
“To all of our amazing supporters: we were raised higher than we could have ever imagined by your constant devotion and shouts. Your fervor for both the game and our nation is really motivating. As we face significant economic issues, let’s extend the same sense of solidarity off the football field and into every aspect of our lives.
“Remember that we are stronger as a team as we tackle the challenges that lie ahead. Let’s use the same spirit of cooperation and camaraderie that we felt throughout the competition to overcoming the next challenges. “Thank you, Nigeria, for your unwavering support. Let’s embrace our diversity as a strength and stand united as one nation, one team, and one family.” Let’s keep pushing for excellence on and off the field,” Musa stated on Monday in a post on his official X account.
