The maturity and neutrality exhibited by both the executive and judicial arms of government during the just-concluded verdict of the Supreme Court in respect of pending cases of some governors has been described as a step forward for the common man to believe there is sanity in the judiciary.
It is also believed that the common man will no longer exercise fears or doubts on how the wheel of justice runs at any court of law of the country.
This was disclosed by Alhaji Shuaibu Danmalan, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Gusau, capital of Zamfara State, while speaking to our reporter at his residence shortly after the verdict of the Supreme Court, which was in favour of the incumbent governors.
He explained that many people were scared few days before the final say of the court, thinking that something contrary would happen as there was speculation making the round that both federal government and judiciary were planning to tamper with the cases.
According to him, he was one of those who thought the same thing as many others with regard to the cases, as such things have been happening in the past and is still in the mind of almost every Nigerian, “but actually we were now satisfied, he added.
The stalwart also stated that what transpired during the sitting of the court, many people believe that there was a conspiracy to deprive some governors of their rights especially as many of them (the governors involved) were of the opposition PDP.
” We received series of complaints here and there from the members and well wishers of the party that if care was not taken something different will happen according to what they gathered from those who were close to the corridors of power.
But now that all the cases were over, continued the stalwart, ” the successful ones, most especially the governors should wake from their slumber and do the job they have applied for so that they can justify the confidence of both people and the government reposed on them, which is nothing but development.”
He also said, “What I will advise now is for the successful governors to ensure they give positive leadership to the governed, especially state like ours, which needs to address insecurity. We have nothing to bother about if we have security in this state and which was the most cardinal issue the present governor promised to tackle after taking over the mantle of leadership of the state, he concludes.
