The active voice subscriptions of the mobile telecommunications company, Airtel, grew by 6.1 per cent in the space of six months, despite overall declining teledensity for all networks.
The National Bureau of Statistics reports for the third and fourth quarters of 2020 in the telecoms industry showed that Airtel gained more voice subscribers amounting up to 3.18 million new subscriptions.
At the end of Q2 2020, the number of active voice subscriptions of Airtel was 52.46 million. This increased to 55.25 million in Q3 2020 and to 55.64 million in Q4 2020.
This made the network provider the highest gainer amongst peers including MTN, Globacom and 9Mobile all of which recorded a modest margin increment in the period examined.
