Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed as fake a viral social media post quoting him as downplaying killings in Nigeria and attacking former U.S. President Donald Trump, describing the claim as “a reckless fabrication aimed at stirring diplomatic tension.”

The post, shared widely by Rant HQ and other platforms, falsely attributed a quote to Akpabio that read: “The killing is taking place in Nigeria not in the USA; Trump should focus on America. Nigerians are not complaining about the killings; we are satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.”

In a swift rebuttal issued on Sunday, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, debunked the statement as “a total falsehood and the handiwork of mischief-makers trying to incite misunderstanding between Senator Akpabio, President Trump, and Nigeria’s international partners.”

“The Senate President has never made such a statement — not publicly, privately, in writing, or in any conversation. The accompanying photo used to authenticate the false post was also mischievously lifted from an unrelated official event,” Eyiboh said.

He described Akpabio as “a statesman of global repute, committed to diplomacy, friendship, and mutual respect among nations,” noting that the Senate President holds President Trump in “high regard as a historic global leader.”

Eyiboh cautioned purveyors of fake news against what he called “digital recklessness,” urging the public to disregard the viral post and verify information from credible sources.

“The Office of the President of the Senate remains committed to truth, transparency, and responsible communication — both within Nigeria and on the international stage,” he added.
