Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has refuted rumors circulating that his partnership with Senate President Godswill Akpabio is intended to replace the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Eno clarified this during a media discussion in Uyo over the weekend as part of events commemorating Akwa Ibom State’s 37th anniversary.
He said he respected Senator Akpabio’s position as head of the Senate and was working with him to bring development to the state, and he asked the populace to learn the difference between party problems and governance concerns.
The governor emphasized that he would take advantage of the Senate president’s position as the third most important person in the nation, saying that the state is fortunate to have him.
“The tranquility we are all experiencing is the first benefit of developing this friendship. Perhaps for this reason, some people think I’m not really here or there.
“I am a PDP member, I work for the PDP, and we will never stop supporting the party as a state.” However, we have to distinguish between matters of government and party.
“We are running for office right now, and I work for the PDP. We are campaigning, and we will prevail. I’ve been accused of using body language by some people.
“You misinterpreted my body language; I don’t use any. Body language is absent. We have demonstrated to the public that we are a trustworthy organization—I work for the PDP.
“In this state, there is no local government that we do not engage in some capacity, and there is no analogy.
The governor declared, “I want voters to make the final decision; compare what is done to what you are seeing and look at what is left.”
