Few days after commencing the rehabilitation of Mabushi township road, chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu on Tuesday performed the ground breaking ceremony to mark the commencement for the rehabilitation of Gosa township road in the council.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Gosa road project, Maikalangu said that, as a responsible government that addresses the yearnings of the people, it is the responsibility of his administration to meet the needs and aspirations of the electorate, adding that AMAC residents will enjoy dividends of democracy and feel the impact of good governance within their various communities.

He said: “I am very glad to be here this morning to perform this ground breaking ceremony as we flag off the commencement of the construction of the Gosa township road along the Airport road axis of the council.

“As a responsible government that responds to the yearnings of his people, we count it imperative to initiate this project to meet the demands and aspirations of the electorate within the benefiting community.

“In line with our vision and passion for my dear people of AMAC, I will continue to say it again that bringing rural renewal project, such as this, to our communities will enable residents to enjoy the dividends of democracy and feel the impact of good governance and prosperity, which we are committed to promote.

“I wish to emphasise here that this project conforms with the campaign promises we made before our election.

We promise development, development and more development across the 12 electoral wards of the council in the best interest of the people.

“I recall that during my election, I promised to run an open and inclusive government; an administration where citizens are entitled to contribute especially on areas of deciding on the type and form of projects they desired.

“In that regard, most of the projects we celebrate today, especially road construction, falls within the preferences of the largely disadvantaged rural communities.”

He added: “The need to provide basic infrastructures such as this cannot be over-emphasised. It makes life much easier as it facilitates meaningful lives, enhance commerce and enables residents to carry out their economic activities and improve their living conditions without stress.

“To this end, we have focused more on roads construction and rehabilitation within one year of this administration even though we have also strived in the provision of rural electrification, water and educational development, among others.

“It may interest you to note that as part of the roads revolution we are celebrating today, we can boast to have provided over ten (10) asphalt legacy roads across the three zones of the 12 political wards of the Area Council, ALL ready for commissioning.

“They include: the construction of roads within Kpegyi community; Damagaza Village; Wumba village, and Gwagwa (by Police Station). In addition, we have FULLY completed the Dutsen-Garki; Jikwoyi, Unguwan Sarki access road (Orozo), Mabushi ongoing access road, as well as the Iddo-Sarki access road project not far from here.

Similarly, about six (6) on-going road projects across the area council to add to the one we are about to commence today.

“We are here to serve the people and we will leave no stone unturned until we make positive impact in the life our our tenure. I thank you very much for listening.”

Speaking earlier, the Supervisory Councillor for Works, Hon. Dantani Zaudna, said the road is 1.4 kilometers in length and will help to encourage economic development of the community.

He said: “Gosa is an ancient community. Part of what you are seeing here today is the fulfillment of the campaign promises of the Executive Chairman. He is a Talk and Do Chairman, Mr Projects. This is a 1.4 kilometer distance road project that will serve two communities: Gosa and Agwan Tailor.

“We thank the community for their cooperation as they removed some obstructions that would have impeded the road project. The road will be asphalted with drainages. The road project will attract economic development as it will boost the economy of the community. Many people will definitely rent houses here because it is very close to the airport.

“We are very happy to have a chairman who listens and has the interest of his people at heart. I will advise the contractor to be up and doing because the Chairman will visit the site for inspection at short notice to see if the work is progressing.”

While showing his appreciation, the Hakimi of Gosa, Hakimi Ishaku Nana, said that Maikalangu is a man who lives up to his words as he fulfilled his promise of rehabilitating the road just few weeks after visiting the community.

“We are very glad for this rehabilitation project that was commenced by the Executive Chairman of AMAC. Some few weeks ago, the chairman visited us and promised to rehabilitate the road. Today, it is a reality. We are all very happy for this project. God will continue to bless him,” he said.

Similarly, a member of the community, Michael Musa, who represented the youth leader, Matthew Tatari, said that the Chairman has been doing a lot for the community, but that more is needed, especially the inclusion of more youths in his administration.

He said: “We are very grateful to the Executive Chairman of AMAC for always remembering AMAC in his numerous projects. This is not the first project he will be executing in this community. He installed solar street lights for us, thereby turning this community to a town.

“He also took one of our sons and made an important official in the government. However, we want to solicit for more of our youths to also consider more of our youths to be part of his government.”

Two local vigilante operatives in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have been arrested for allegedly torturing and raping a 15 year old girl, Miss Glory Joseph.

Narrating her daughter ordeal to newsmen, mother to the victim, Mrs Helen Joseph, a widow appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Commissioner of Police and Women Affairs Commissioner, Hon. Ify Obinabo to come to her rescue before she would be denied justice.

She said, ” I am a widow and mother of six, from Makurdi, Benue State, We live at Nkpor, on the fateful day three vigilante operatives and a girl stormed my apartment.

“The girl accused my daughter of removing #13,000 she kept in a particular place and my daughter told them that she did not understand what they were saying and didn’t take any money.

“Immediately they started beating her and dragged her to their torture camp. That day was like hell to me because she is my only daughter and they kept deaf ears to all my pleas that they should release her.

“In the night, they tortured her and their leader raped her while others held her. Early in the morning the next day they dumped her at the gate of our compound with blood all over her body and she couldn’t talk because she was unconscious.

“I had no option than to rush to Ogidi police station and one of them, the one that raped her, was arrested and the police took my daughter to hospital where it was confirmed that she was raped.

“At the Ogidi Police station, instead of the police to arrest the remaining two, they tried to release the one they arrested without tangible reason and I had to get in touch with the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, and the case was transferred to Awka.

“At Awka, the police arrested one more, making them two as the one at Ogidi was brought to Awka. The leaders of the vigilante group and friends to the vigilante group approached and begged me to take #50,000 and I said no that I want justice for my daughter.

“Next day they came and pleaded with #100,000 and I said I want justice and they boasted to me that since I refused to take #100,000 that they will give it to police and those arrested will be released and true to their words, the two who were detained have been released.

“Because I don’t have anybody on my side, the police told me that they will come to Nkpor and interview people on the incident. Luckily for me, a neighbour, has confessed to me that it was her daughter that removed the controversial #13,000 and and not my daughter and begged me to forgive her.

“I am pleading to Governor Soludo, Commissioner of Police and Women Affairs Commissioner, Hon. Ify Obinabo to come to my rescue before they deny me justice as my daughter now lives in pains,” she pleaded.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said investigation has commenced.
