Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu has promised to improve development in rural communities of the council in the new year.

Maikalangu, who made the promise in his New Year message, also assured AMAC residents that his administration remains committed towards the wellbeing and welfare of every resident.

He stated that the first quarter of 2023 would be celebrated in projects delivering and implementation in the rural communities of the council.

The AMAC chairman also commended residents of the council, for living up to, and exhibiting the virtues of unity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence which are the ideals of Christmas and New Year’ celebrations.

In a statement signed by his senior special assistant on media and public affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu reminded residents that the new cashless revenue transaction policy is fully on course, adding that the new policy is expected to pay off by the first quarter of 2023.

He therefore, called on the Ministers of the Federal Capital Territory to embark on a tour of not only the satellite towns, but of villages to be able to understand the deprivations and retardation experienced daily, by the grassroots people.

“We have collated their needs assessment, built them in the budget awaiting appropriate action. As this administration is determined to uplift the living standards of the common man through a concerted effort of implementing our budget, the PEOPLE’S BUDGET, 2023″.

“We also hopeful that in the coming year, allocations from the Federation and remittances from the Federal Capital Territory Administration especially, FCT Internal Revenue Service, would be done timely.

“While we remain committed to exploring the instrumentality of entrenching good and transparent governance, we have began the process of re-engineering the mechanism of strengthening the Council’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

“Part of our good governance model is our resolve to justifying the collection of every single Kobo earned, by providing public infrastructure within the municipality as well as the highly disadvantaged rural areas”

According to the Chairman, the administration efforts at repositioning the Council, for better service delivery is yielding dividends as staff of the Administration have become more alive to their responsibilities and largely keyed into the public service reform agenda of the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Accordingly, in a bid to blocking all leakages, we have made announcements that the revenue-paying public must stop making cash payments of all forms by paying all that is due to AMAC to its statutory revenue accounts in designated banks or face the risk of paying twice.

He reiterated that his administration’s focus and vision remains to drastically concentrate on being responsive to the well-being and welfare of all citizens by delivering on their infrastructural and social needs where possible.
