Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu has warmed residents against dumping of refuse into the drainage system in their areas.
Maikalangu, who gave the warning during inspection of completed and ongoing road projects in Nyanya, Karu and Kabusa wards, noted that refuse dumps are already blocking some of the newly completed drainage system in some areas.
He stated that very soon, the area council would start arresting residents who are involved in such act, adding that government cannot no longer tolerate such behaviour.
According to him, “Some residents don’t listen. This road is meant for people and for vehicles. Why should people throw their waste into the drainages.
You can see how they have blocked the whole drainage system. It is not fair. We have been saying this for a long time now, and very soon we will start arresting people for doing this.”
Maikalangu also directed the works department of the area council to pull down the health care facility in Nyanya community, so that AMAC can build a modern health care facility for the community.
He noted that the health care facility in the area has been abandoned for a long time, adding that the structures housing the facility is also obsolete and needs to be upgraded.
“That health care facility at Nyanya community has been abandoned more many years now, and when I got there, I didn’t like the structures.
So, I have directed the works department to pull it down, so that we can build a modern health care facility for the community,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the completed and ongoing projects, adding that the contractors have done very well on the execution of the road projects.
I am very happy with the completed and ongoing projects in the wards I have visited. I can give the contractors 90 percent mark for the jobs. You can see by yourself that the contractors have done very well.
