Anambra 2023: APGA moves against OBIdients, anti-party activities

Tony Okafor, Awka

Ahead of the 2023 General elections, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has warmed its members against campaigning for candidates of other political parties under whatever guise.

Apparently referring to the waves the supporters of the Labour ( LP) candidate, Peter Obi, under the youth movement called OBIdients, are making, that is fast swallowing the status quo, APGA warned that supporting non-APGA candidates in the polls would amount to anti-party activity.

Recall that a former Chief Judge of Anambra State, Prof Peter Umeadi, is the presidential candidate of APGA in the poll and from Anaocha Local Government Area of the state with Peter Obi.

The warning notice which was widely circulated and a copy sighted by our correspondent on Wednesday in Awka, the Anambra State capital, was distributed by the state APGA chairman, Sir Nobert Obi.

Copies were also made available to the State Working Committee members and LG and ward chairmen of the party. The notice was dated August: 18, 2022 ref APGA/AN/08/60.

In the notice, the APGA state chairman said his attention had been drawn to several activities of some members of APGA who were campaigning for candidates of other political parties.

He said such action was inimical to the over all interest of APGA which he said had the intention to sweep the 2023 general elections especially in Anambra State where the party had fielded candidates for all the National and State Assembly elections.

He said, “You may wish to know that it is wrong for any member to campaign, solicit votes, or attend any activity organized by other political parties or their candidates other than our great party APGA.

“Such development is considered anti-party activity and an act of indiscipline in breach of Article 21, General Code of Conduct of our great party.

“There are several cases of members belonging to WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms that promote and campaign for candidates of other political parties. Not a few even go as far as sharing posts that promote candidates who are not APGA members.”

He declared that such activity would be visited with heavy disciplinary action as stated in Section 22 of APGA Constitution.
