Anambra: 70% of Southeast youths are cultists- Statesman

By Phil Okose, Onitsha
It is a very disturbing situation that at least 70 per cent of the youths from the range of 18 to 35 years, in Southeast zone, are cultists.
The President General of Ogidi community, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Chief Chuka Onubogu, made the assertion while fielding questions from newsmen Friday.
“There is insecurity and threat in Southeast zone. Insecurity is taking its  toll in Southeast now. Let us have the right to elect our leaders. We have failed in the upbringing of our children.
“Parents concentrate more on earnings than their children. If you train your children very well they will refrain from crime.”
He advised that all hands should be on desk towards curtailing the situation stating that, “What we are doing is managing it because drug is involve. What of the rich men that engage them? So it is a complex situation.
“That is why we talk of unknown gunmen, in Igbo land I think there is no more value for life. We get scared when we see unknown gunmen. Let me warn that if any security man or Ebubeagu feels because he is armed and commits murder, he should go in for it, we have laws for such.
“These unknown gunmen have license to kill. He who lives by the gun shall die by the gun. I throw away my PG position when I see those unknown gunmen because they don’t value life.
“If you see a kidnapper you see a killer. The system has collapsed . When they are arrested they are freed but I don’t want to tell you the process in setting them free.
“Even when criminals are in prison they have access to phones and even call those who brought them there and threaten them. We have to be careful with the wicked ones because they are ready to kill.
“If we must tell ourselves the truth, every section must be scrutinized. The people we have given our trust have failed us. I pity Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, he is operating on a very terrible situation. I wish him well because from what I am seeing, a good foundation must be laid.”
