Anambra Government partners Traditional Rulers to end drug abuse

In a bid to end drug abuse, Anambra State Ministry of Health is partnering with the traditional rulers in the state to fight to end drug abuse across the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said his Ministry’s partnership with the natural rulers would help to end drug abuses in the state.

Dr Okpala said this while addressing them during their meeting at Government House, Awka.

The commissioner informed them that the State government through his ministry had inaugurated a Committee to see to the treatment and rehabilitation of those abusing Crystal Methamphetamine (Mkpulumili) in the state.

He applauded the monarchs for the valuable roles they played to see to the success of sensitisation and administering of COVID-19 jabs in the state, urging them not to relent.

“According to him, the committee was made up of health experts, psychologists, officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Police,

“We seek for the cooperation of Ndigwe in our dear state to enable the committee to work seamlessly,’’ he said.

Dr Okpala informed them that the administration of COVID-19 booster dozes to Ndi Anambra was still ongoing across the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs). “It is another means of ending the pandemic’’.

The traditional ruler of Isseke Community, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife commended the State Government for doing the needful.

He suggested that Ndigwe could have been included in the committee to enable them to work with ease at all times.

Earlier, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, said the government should focus more on ending the source at which the dangerous drug enter the state.

“This will help to have a permanent solution to the menace of drug abuse ravaging not just our state but Nigeria at large.’’

Others are Igwe George Ekwealor of Umuoba-Anam, Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh and his Omor counterpart, Igwe Chris Oranu.
