Governor Willie Obiano has directed the Ministry of Trade and Commerce to reopen the Agbedo Spare Parts Market Nnewi which was closed on Monday 8 for flagrant and constant violations of the Covid-19 protocols.
The government had observed that the behaviour of the traders in this market and their customers as well as the nonchalant attitude of officials of the market union, has led to a huge spike in the number of COVID-19 infections in Nnewi since this year.
But after the closure of the Nnewi market on Monday, many stakeholders had approached the government, seeking for leniency and reversal of the closure and pledged to abide by Covid-19 protocols so established by the state.
In a statement released yesterday by the Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment, CDon Adinuba warned stakeholders against abusing Governor Obiano’s compassionate decision.
He noted that the State Government will not hesitate to shut down this market or any other market which contravenes the protocols to check COVID-19 as health and safety of our people remain supreme.
