Anambra Police Command has reacted to the unfortunate incident that occurred last night at Awka, Anambra State.
It was gathered that unknown Gunmen invaded some federal government facilities in Awka and razed them.
They attacked a police division and set ablaze the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, C.P Chris Owolabi said the hoodlums were repelled by the police.
According to him, “At about 8pm last night on Sunday, I got a call that B-Division was under attack. They were firing guns and set the charge room on fire. But our men at B- Division defended themselves.
“Our men repelled them and recovered the three Hilux Jeeps they came with. We also recovered 6 pump-action and 2 AK47 among other ammunitions.
“No casualty on the part of the police. We recorded 95% successes.
“As stands now, investigations are still ongoing to determine how many hoodlums shot. We are equally visiting hospitals to ascertain we ran to the hospital.
“I assure your police is on top of the situation. There is no cause for alarm. We are working with all the armed forces together.
“Our men are back to streets to reclaim the state. So we assure you to go on with your businesses.” C.P explained.
On his part, the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji confirmed that the hoodlums set ablaze their collation centre and part of their store.
“They also set ablaze our 6 operational vehicles. I commend Police for the excellent job they did. Those places burnt can be repaired.” Orji added.
