The Anambra State Government has closed a notorious brothel in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, following allegations of illegal activities, including harboring underage sex workers, drug peddlers, and criminals.

The raid, conducted by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, led to the rescue of 10 sex workers, some of whom were underage.

Official Statement

Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, disclosed in a press release on Thursday that the operation followed extensive monitoring and intelligence reports on the brothel’s activities.

“This operation was carried out after an intelligence report showed that their illegal activities had aided all kinds of crimes, ranging from drug trafficking to underage sex work,” Anere stated.

He added that the brothel also served as a hideout for armed robbers and other criminals.

Government Action

The authorities have vowed to apprehend and prosecute the operators of the brothel to deter similar illegal establishments in the state.

Anere reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of residents.

This decisive action reflects Anambra’s ongoing efforts to tackle crime and promote a clean, healthy, and secure environment for its citizens.
