Anti- malaria vaccination: Nasarawa targets over 985 children

Nasarawa State Health Commissioner, Dr Gaza Gwamna, has restated the state governor, Engr Abdullahi A Sule’s continued commitment towards transforming the health sector.

Dr Gaza stated this during a media conference of the season malaria chemo-prevention (SMC) Round 4 campaign in the state in collaboration with the Malaria Consortium.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday during the press conference at the Ministry of Health’s conference hall, Dr. Gaza announced that over 985 000 children under the age of five will benefit from the anti-malaria vaccination efforts this year throughout the state.

The commissioner commended the malaria consortium’s for their efforts in implementing the seasonal malaria chemo- prevention initiative, describing it as appropriate and in keeping with the state government’s goal of enhancing health care services

He said the ministry would continue to support any initiative aimed at improving the health of the populace in line with Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration which placed a top priority on the health sector.

While urging the state program coordinator to sustain the effort for the benefit of children and pregnant women during pregnancy, Dr Gaza said the drugs are safe and effective.

NGOs, traditional, community, and religious leaders, as well as other important stakeholders, were also urged to mobilize and raise awareness among the populace in order to guarantee that the initiative benefits the children of the targeted age group.
