The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has warned the campaign team of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Anambra State governorship election, Andy Ubah, to refrain from intimidating the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji. It would be recalled that Uba had accused Dr. Orji of frustrating his efforts to approach the election tribunal to challenge the results of the November 6 poll, by denying him the certified true copies of all materials used in the election, which according to him would aid his case at the tribunal. But addressing newsmen in Awka, the National Coordinator, APGA Media Warrior Forum, Chinedu Obigwe said the state resident electoral commissioner played a major role in ensuring a credible election in Anambra State.
According to Obigwe, “there is the need for lovers of democracy to condemn the Andy Uba campaign organisation’s resort to intimidate Dr. Nwachukwu Orji, the resident electoral commissioner of INEC in Anambra State. “The only offence of the resident electoral commissioner is that he played a major role in the conduct of an election that was adjudged by Nigerians and the international community to be the freest, fairest and credible election conducted in the country. “The Anambra November 6 election was applauded by lovers of free and fair election, including President Muhammadu Buhari who is the leader of APC, Andy Uba’s party. So intimidating the resident electoral commissioner must not be condoned and should be condemned. “The Andy Uba Campaign Organisation has been threatening to unleash mayhem in Anambra by reintroducing their politically motivated insecurity in Anambra State over their claim that the resident electoral commissioner refused to give them the certified documents of the November 6 governorship election.
“I have always maintained that Andy Uba and his blind followers are anarchists and bloodsuckers. They feel happy by inflicting pain on the hapless Anambra people. “What concerns the Anambra people and their demand for INEC to give them certified documents of the November 6 governorship election that will warrant them to be saying that their alleged action of the resident electoral commissioner is capable of triggering insecurity in the state.
“This is a threat taken too far and should not be swept under the carpet. As for the allegation they levelled against the resident electoral commissioner, I will describe it as a politically motivated allegation that is aimed at attracting sympathy for Andy Uba as the sore loser of the November 6 governorship election. “All they want to achieve with the politically motivated allegation they levelled against the resident electoral commissioner is to paint him black in the eyes of the general public. But they have failed.
