The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has urged Nigerian Army troops to reciprocate the ongoing transformation drive with exceptional operational effectiveness.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Armoured Corps Headquarters Complex in Obienu Barracks, Bauchi, General Lagbaja acknowledged the Federal Government’s support in clearing the backlog of Group Life Assurance and implementing welfare schemes to improve personnel’s living standards.
The COAS emphasized the repair and retrofitting of combat platforms despite economic challenges, demonstrating the NA’s commitment to operational effectiveness. He encouraged troops to exhibit discipline, dedication, and loyalty, essential for achieving success in their missions.
General Lagbaja also solicited cooperation from serving and retired senior officers to restore the Armoured Corps’ position as the Combat Arm of Decisions, highlighting the importance of collaboration and experience in achieving this goal.
The event featured the commissioning of a Fire Service Station and POL dump, showcasing the NA’s focus on infrastructure development and self-sufficiency.
The COAS also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, recognizing the traditional institution’s support and encouraging continued collaboration.
The Governor of Bauchi State, represented by Deputy Governor Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jattau, praised the NA’s proactive steps in combating security challenges and urged sustained synergy among security agencies.
His Eminence, Alhaji (Dr) Mohammadu Saad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, a former Tanker, lauded the COAS for the remarkable transformation and urged its continuation, acknowledging the NA’s crucial role in combating terrorism and insurgency.
This development according to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu highlights the Nigerian Army’s commitment to operational effectiveness and welfare, ensuring troops are equipped to combat security challenges effectively.
The transformation drive he said, has boosted morale, and the COAS’s call to reciprocate with operational excellence is expected to enhance the NA’s overall performance.
