Atiku criticizes Tinubu for refineries, subsidy delay

President Bola Tinubu has come under fire from former vice president Atiku Abubakar once more for PMS subsidies that are still being paid for although derogatory allegations are being made against the product.

This comes after the president authorized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, or NNPCL, to subsidize gasoline using the federation’s 2023 dividends.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Atiku responded to the situation and voiced his concerns, characterizing it as yet another instance of opaque government under the current administration.

He drew attention to the fact that the decision goes against what the President had said earlier in a national broadcast, when he declared that the payment of subsidies would stop.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is running for president in 2023, has accused Tinubu’s administration of using less open means to pay subsidies.

Atiku said, “This disparity between the President’s words and deeds not only calls into question the moral authority of his leadership but also seriously damages the credibility of his administration.”

Atiku also criticized the Port Harcourt Refinery’s delays in reopening, labeling it a national embarrassment.

He blamed President Tinubu, who is also the Minister of Petroleum Resources, for the setback.

In addition, Atiku made clear that the hardships Nigerians were facing as a result of gasoline shortages and rising prices were made worse by NNPC Limited’s steadfast denials.

Concerned about the President’s lack of response in the wake of NNPCL allegedly diverting funds to pay for subsidies, he voiced his concerns.

In order to relieve Nigerians of their suffering from inflation and gasoline scarcity, Atiku urged President Tinubu to assume responsibility for resolving those important concerns.
